Summary

Operationskollen AB is a Swedish start-up formed by a multidisciplinary team of talented entrepreneurs in the fields of medicine, software development and business innovation. Our objective is to improve Health Care by empowering patients while improving the Healthcare process. Over the last 3 years, we have worked on developing OpCo, a digital tool for Healthcare Process Improvement offered in the form of Software as a Service which engages all players (patients and Healthcare providers) within the pre-, peri- and post- surgery process. OpCo beta version is successfully being used in 3 Swedish regions, 6 hospitals and over 2,500 patients and close relatives. Our innovative approach has been widely recognized by several regional and national institutions. We aim to reach the market by 2021 with a fully functional tool (TRL9) for Orthopaedic and ObGyn surgeries, helping out over 15,000 patients only in the first year of commercialization.

Work performed

In this Feasibility Study, we have analyzed the implementation of OpCo. We have carried out research and analyses concerning various fields: 1) Commercial Feasibility, 2) Technical Feasibility and 3) Financial Feasibility.
Among the objectives achieved we can highlight: requirements of OpCo platform, the next technical development steps (predictive techniques, analytical tools and patient management tools), their scope, timing and resources required and regulatory landscape; a deeper knowledge of the market structure and needs, our competitors and our positioning; the potential of our OpCo, both technically and commercially; the business plan to be followed to reach the market in the next 18 months.

Final results

OpCo creates a new market niche as it combines several segments that no other solution available does: it is a cloud-based SaaS, which improves Health Management (surgery scheduling) as well as Home Health Management (pre-operatory patient home care). OpCo software end-users are the patients and their support networks. OpCo service users are Medical teams and HCPs who perceive it as an Empowerment as a Service tool. OpCo will engage patients in their medical processes, which will help to drastically reduce the rate of surgery cancellations to almost, decrease the length of in-hospital stay more than 50% and improve their medical outcome up to 25%.
