Summary

The project responded to the specific topic 55. Support to the 10th Conference on the European Strategic Technology Plan (SET Plan) 2017 in section Other Actions Work Programme of Societal challenge Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy.

Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information as coordinator of the project has been designated by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic to hold a conference in cooperation with the Slovak Foreign Policy Association. Furthermore, SET Plan X – CEEC 2017 was co-organised under the auspices of Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and under auspices of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The conference took place from 29th November to 1st of December 2017.

The 10th Year Anniversary SET Plan conference was conjoined with the 11th annual Central European Energy Conference (CEEC 2017) and organised in Bratislava, Slovakia. The year 2017 marked the jubilee year of the SET Plan and 10 years of constant efforts to mobilise European research and innovation community. The SET Plan now encompasses ambitious R&I targets to inspire cost reductions, performance improvements and accelerate technology deployment.

The 10th year anniversary SET Plan conference had ambition to create a platform to further discuss the SET Plan progress and research and innovation achievements in Europe in the past 10 years that have supported the development of clean, sustainable, efficient and affordable energy technologies for low carbon energy systems in Europe. The conference aimed to examine the implementation process of the Energy Union with a special focus on the role of its Research and Innovation (R&I) dimension. Moreover, it aimed to assess the role of innovative low-carbon technologies in boosting European competiveness, progress in developing new technologies and smart energy systems for efficient use of energy as well growing share of renewables in the primary energy consumption of EU member states. It also evaluated the current trends in electro-mobility, safe utilisation of nuclear energy, enhanced energy storage, consumer friendly eco-design of products and energy labelling, and many other topical issues for the transformation of the EU energy system.

The side events will present added value for the conference participants willing to establish new contacts and partnerships for future cooperation (including research and innovation projects, business and technological cooperation).

Structure of the conference:
• Opening and Closing session
• 10 main panels on SET Plan and priority dimensions of the Energy Union
• 4 parallel evening workshops
• 3 side events

The event programme included social activities – welcome dinner, cocktail – that were expected to strengthen the impact of the conference and complement the official conference agenda.

Final results

The 10th Year Anniversary SET Plan conference once again conjoined with the annual Central European Energy Conference (CEEC) brought together range of stakeholders from international organizations, research organisations, business, municipalities and created a platform to further discuss the SET Plan progress and research and innovation achievements in Europe in the past 10 years that have supported the development of clean, sustainable, efficient and affordable energy technologies for low carbon energy systems in Europe. Expected impacts of the 10th jubilee conference are to bring visibility to the integrated SET Plan, Energy Union and the new European energy Research & Innovation (R&I) approach designed to accelerate the transformation of the EU\'s energy system and to bring promising new zero-emissions energy technologies to market.

We expect that the conference helped promote research and innovation efforts across Europe and impactful technologies in the EU\'s transformation to a low-carbon energy system. As a summary a conference report was released. Complete and exact quotes may be found in videos available at www.setplan2017.sk.
