Summary

NEW ARYEL aims to launch in the smart telemetry applications market an new Machine-To-Machine (M2M) solution which is versatile and cost-effective. The key innovation of NEW ARYEL, compared to the current state of the art, is the integration of several advanced M2M functionalities into the same device with clear economic and technical advantages for clients.

Telemetry is a flourishing market estimated to reach global $103 Billion by 2019 with M2M connections expected to grow at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 21.6% and reach 33 Million worldwide in 2017. Telemetry consists in the automated transmission and reception of measurements with the purpose of remotely monitoring equipment, infrastructure and environmental parameters. Telemeters are devices used to measure data and consist of sensors, a transmission path, displays, recording or control devices. Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions are a technological evolution of telemetry where different types of devices can communicate with each other using existing networks (such as wireless, 3G or broadband) employing less specialised sensors, standard protocols and open data formats. M2M enables flexible processing and analysis of data and the creation of solutions with increased accuracy and efficiency, offering the possibility of customisation and tailored services.
Recent technology enhancements in hardware (sensors and processors), telecommunication (mobile and satellite), and software allow the development of smart telemetry solutions; nevertheless, users of these solutions are still facing barriers mainly due to:
- Lack of hardware (telemeter components) and software products that can be customised, and that comply with international standards to allow easy integration. Current devices are difficult to customise due to limited number and type of I/O ports, use of proprietary and specialised software and protocols, lack of customisation options and tailored services as well as vendor lock-in.
- Lack of cost-effective telemeter motherboards able to process data in real time and open software systems capable to collect such data offering the possibility to easily monitor and control complex systems

NEW ARYEL fully addresses these user needs and overcomes the current market limitations

Work performed

The main results achieved from NEW ARYEL Phase 1 are:
- A detailed technical assessment providing a commercial development plan for NEW ARYEL identifying technical constraints and risks and contingency. The technologies and products to be integrated, such as open source components, Linux distributions, sensors, communication devices and components, have been assessed selecting the best technologies and matches.
- A detailed business plan providing a clear mission and vision, with achievable and realistic objectives for the NEW ARYEL product. It includes a market and competition analysis, showing that NEW ARYEL responds to client needs and has a competitive advantage in terms of features and price. The business model and business cases have also been defined. These business cases are based on real-world interaction with top clients who have also engaged to Pilot the product in Phase 2. A 10-year financial projection and ROI was also deliveded.
- An operational capacity study performed to assess operational requirements to implement NEW ARYEL. It includes a plan for the set-up and running of production and takes into account running requirements, HR and competences needs and supply chain models (e.g. for the procurement and testing).
- Finally a detailed planning and strategy for the SME Instrument Phase 2 project is abd includes details about funding, preliminary work-plan and tasks.

Final results

The expected final result is the succesful launch of NEW ARYEL on the market, starting from existing users who will also be involved in Phase 2. From a socio-economic point of view the project will enable Alosys to generate growth and therefore create new jobs.
