Summary

According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers innovation-analysis, Europe risks losing the leadership in innovations. IPR – e. g. patents, designs and trademarks – allow companies world-wide to secure their share in the market and to invest in innovations. Without IPR innovations could rapidly lose their value.
The state of the art IPR services are characterised by software and service providers who offer specific e.g. patent attorney services, patent information and analysis or other database patent services. These use different tools in a none integrated environment. A decision basis for the responsible IPR manager in the form of an overall arranged overview of the main IPR figures concerning the whole patent portfolio is not offered.
The new intellectual property right (IPR) management service concept IProBoard “Intellectual Property Right Dashboard” is based on an integrated approach that addresses all patent holders, agencies, entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, universities and institutes who struggle to build up and maintain their IPR portfolio. IProBoard service creates transparency and delivers a safe decision support.

Work performed

IProBoard service is developed by EZN due to the 35-year long term experience in the field of IPR up to TRL 6. To reach TRL 8 and to market IProBoard service, a feasibility study has been performed in Phase 1. The technical, economic and operational feasibility have been evaluated and a schedule and a business plan have been elaborated.

Final results

The importance of IPR for companies and universities is increasing year by year world-wide, and a better international protection of innovations using IPR is a challenge. Due to the IPR data flood e. g. long wall filling pages and tables, the responsible in the IPR management are overwhelmed to make rational decisions on relevant IPR process data. IProBoard service allows for the first time an efficient and individual IPR support to significantly save efforts and costs and to simplify the sophisticated IPR management. The European start-up and SME eco-system would benefit in effectively protecting their innovations if IProBoard service can be offered as early as indicated.
