Summary

For Europe, the Internet-of-Things (IoT) provides an opportunity to unlock 7 percentage points of GDP growth (€1 trillion) by 2025.
The key role in achieving this potential is played by IoT device makers, who are exploring new global business models and are moving towards autonomous, self-learning, and fully automated services and products. However, these companies are facing significant connectivity challenges:

• It is not technically possible to automatically manage connectivity traffic, cost and SIM cards on a global scale.
• Available solutions are not compatible with a full range of wide-area connectivity technologies.
• The data transfer prices for global connectivity (IoT devices located in different countries) are up to 500% higher compared to prices for local connectivity (all devices located in a single country).
• The pricing schemes for global connectivity, including financial commitments, are rigid in adopting client’s use cases and are tailored for high-volume customers.

This connectivity challenge has several negative outcomes for the whole IoT sector and beyond:

1. The creation and growth of innovative IoT devices and services are restricted because global business models are difficult to implement and economically infeasible.
2. Global connectivity management cannot be technically embedded into services or products that support automated machine-to-machine communication, self-learning mechanisms, data analytics and real-time visibility.

1oT has developed an IoT connectivity platform that allows IoT device makers to get global data coverage for all of their devices.

DISRUPTIVE ADVANTAGES OF THE PLATFORM:
1. Truly universal, able to serve more than 95% of IoT device makers that need wide-area coverage (irrespective of the connectivity technology used).
2. Unique easy-to-use self-service platform with a powerful Application Programming Interface (API), which enables the user to control, manage, and monitor mobile data sessions around the world from one platform and provides an additional full range of value-added services for one-click integration with other services and software.
3. Truly global connectivity coverage in 180 countries for at least 50% lower data costs.
4. Transparent pay-as-you-go pricing without volume commitments and termination fees.

Work performed

The most significant results of the work packages are:

Work Package 1 – Develop interoperability with emerging connectivity technologies
Integrations with Giesecke + Devrient Mobile Security (www.gi-de.com/en/fr/mobile-security) eSIM demo infrastructure (their SM-SR and SM-DP) which enables to control the eSIM and download and swap eSIM profiles (telecom services)
Development of user interface to our platform to support eSIM management
Testing customer feedback on eSIM services and 1oT Terminal at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona and receiving valuable feedback for further developments
Sigfox integration with 1oT Terminal

Work Package 2 – 1oT user portal development
New billing module developed (not released yet) for more reliable, faster & transparent billing generation and invoicing
We estimate that for decent and nicely documented APIs and CDRs that we receive from telecoms, we are able to complete integrations within 2-4 working days as of today. Therefore, we have already reduced the time required for building technical relationships with telecoms, but it must be developed more universal and testing through on more telecoms to confidently have this statement
During the reporting period we developed 3 value-added services to our platform: 1) KPI reporting 2) Productivity toolkit and 3) Sigfox integration features

Work Package 3 – Piloting with IoT companies and mobile operators
Tested successfully 95,785 traditional SIM cards in real client devices
Tested our connectivity services globally, with the focus on the North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania
Launched eSIM at Mobile World Congress 2019 (Barcelona)
Approached 500+ potential customers and received feedback
Approached and had discussion with at least 30 different telecoms worldwide with the goal to deploy them on our soon-to-be launched eSIM service
Stated off testing eSIM on different hardware modules and building in-house competence
Attended 10 conferences & seminars to gain more market insight for development, attract potential customers and partner up with potential telecoms worldwide

Work Package 4 – Commercialization and business development
We have identified the potential cooperation partners, e.g. Libelium
Active participation and networking at relevant events: e.g. attended 10 conferences worldwide during the reporting period
Constant presence in social media with the focus on Facebook, Linkedin & Twitter
Updated 1oT’s visual identity: new webpage, new colours
Hired IoT Hacker who started testing through different hardware modules and create technical (quality) content to our blog
Started collecting emails to newsletter list more strategically
First steps completed in building an IoT community around us

Work Package 5 – Project management
All activities of the project have been well on track. All first period R&I tasks have been fulfilled, we have started with preparations for piloting, we have dissemination materials and tools in place, as well as all the deliverables of the period have been submitted as foreseen in the grant agreement. We can proudly say that there have been no deviations from the official work plan.

Final results

1oT has upgraded its connectivity management platform further by developing initial eSIM compatibility, making integration easier in terms of platform licensing service line and onboarding new telecom services & developing 3 value-added services to enhance the functionality of our services. Most importantly, 1oT’s platform is catering around 100,000 SIM cards worldwide and has proved to be essential tool for IoT service providers for managing and controlling their SIMs. We have helped multiple IoT companies to scale their services and unlock new markets with ease. Additionally, we are confident that our telecom-independent eSIM solution tailored for IoT will bring a lot of revolution to the market and solve the fundamental connectivity problem for global IoT businesses.
