Summary

SENIS is a Swiss company founded in 2004, which develops and sells extremely accurate and stable CMOS based Hall sensors and magnetometers for industrial and academic applications, among others in the automotive, consumer electronics and test & measurement market. In 2016, based on our know-how, wide expertise in the field of magnetic sensors and direct contacts with a remarkable range of clients and partners, we detected an urgent need of developing FAMAS (FAst Magnetic Angle Sensor): an innovative magnetic angular sensor far ahead any other current solution in the market. FAMAS is 1) cost effective (38% less compared to current solutions), 2) fast (200,000 rpm) and 3) accurate (0.1º resolution). FAMAS will disrupt in the magnetic field sensor global market, creating a new niche, and will target automotive OEMs as our main clients. FAMAS is at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 stage of development. The overall aim of the project is to take it to TRL9 and to market launch by 2021.

Work performed

In this Feasibility Study, we have analyzed the implementation of our FAMAS. We have carried our research and analysis concerning various fields: 1) Technical Plan, 2) Commercial Plan and FTO analysis, 3) Financial Plan.
Among the objectives achieved we can highlight: analysis of the current state of development of our FAMAS and the required improvements, a deeper knowledge of the market needs and the competitors within it; the potential of our IMPLAGUIDE, both technical and commercial; the business plan to be followed to reach the market in the next 24 months.

Final results

Current magnetic angle sensors in the market are either very fast but not sensitive enough or slow and rather sensitive. FAMAS approach is totally disruptive, as it combines the world´s most sensitive and accurate Si CMOS based vertical Hall devices (achieved angular resolution of down to 0.08º) at the high rotational speed (of up to 200,000 rpm) with the innovative signal conditioning electronics. FAMAS is fully aligned with the OEMs´ main driver (growth in automotive industry) as they are our first target client, provides answers to their main needs (low-cost magnetic field sensors and high product differentiation). FAMAS will directly impact in the automotive OEMs industry allowing higher safety and performance of their products and higher product differentiation.
