Summary

The ability of business and society to make informed decisions is under threat. The proliferation of poor quality, biased, hateful and factually inaccurate information available on the internet make it increasingly difficult for people to make balanced, well informed decisions. Existing content moderation tools often have their own inherent bias as they rely on the course use of keywords to flag malicious content. These tools cannot pick up on subtitles like propaganda or opinionated content.
Factmata has built a scoring system to provide a transparent analysis of online content, which allows people the ability to think critically about what they are reading across factors like propaganda, sexism, racism and bias. Factmata have also developed technology to scrutinise content at the ‘opinion level’ and track narratives evolving on social media about any topic, and provide a real-time indication of the quality, safety and credibility of these narratives and whether they are fake or real.
The objectives of the project are focused on defining the technological, commercial and financial tasks to improve the platform’s performance from a technical perspective as well as upgrading the functionality of the platform to include more features. This will give users a holistic product for all their content analysis and online risk monitoring needs.

Work performed

During the Feasibility Study we have described in detail the next steps to follow in order to bring the innovation to commercialisation (TRL9), the work packages and budget preparation for the project, identification and definition of the full supply chain, definition of the business model and commercialisation strategy, risks, market and competitors’ analysis.

Final results

Unlike current technologies/solutions which are limited by simple keyword analysis of media to provide tracking around positive/negative sentiment, Factmata’s solution provides algorithms that can detect, cluster and track claims, rumours, opinions, arguments and stances toward key topics (focused on societal issues e.g. vaccination and domestic violence, and topics relevant to brands such as key themes within industries like e-mobility or mental health in the workplace). The project will lead to savings in preventing reputation incidents such as sock puppets and astroturfing of brands, and also optimising resource allocation to the right narratives and themes within industries.
