Summary

OrbiWise is a Swiss company based in Geneva, founded in 2014, that develops advanced technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT) industry. SAMPOLS is our latest innovation, consisting of a noise pollution monitoring solution, leveraging our core technology and competences. It is able to measure and analyze noise level in urban areas in real time, thanks to a high-accuracy microphone and a Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology radio-communication electronics, enabling long-range communication to the base stations, with very low-power consumption. The Feasibility Report has provided the different aspects required for SAMPOLS to be commercially deployed within 2 years, by making use of the €2.4M investment (70% EIC Accelerator, 30% private investment.

Work performed

In this Feasibility Study, we have analyzed the implementation of SAMPOLS. We have carried out research and analyses concerning various fields: Technical plan, Commercial plan and Business plan.
Among the objectives achieved we can highlight: analysis of existing prototypes and definition of the Work Plan (tasks, timing, resources) to be followed for the required future improvements; analysis of different manufacturing options to ensure our scaling-up capacity; a deeper knowledge of the market structure and needs, the competitors within it and our positioning; the potential of our SAMPOLS device, technical and commercial; the business plan to be followed to reach the market in the next 24 months.

Final results

There are two groups of competitors in the noise monitoring space: i) traditional suppliers of noise monitoring equipment, with long experience in quality sonometers and operating at high margins in this very specific niche of equipment; ii) new entrants with IoT-based solutions, whose portfolio typically does not comprise noise monitoring only, but a wide range of measurements, either for smart cities or many other applications. SAMPOLS has demonstrated to be less expensive, more scalable, more reliable and presents less CO2 pollution (less travels to take measures) and a real-time noise monitoring solution, to help authorities reduce noise impact on health.
