Summary

\"The company (Who?)
Bridge Mediatech, S.L. is a Spanish technology SME founded in 2010. With large experience in second screen solutions for television broadcasting industry, in 2013 we launched our first mobile application: mashTV.. During the second half of 2014 we closed an important business deal with some of the bigger broadcasters of the world to integrate our technology in their \"\"TV\"\" app.

The problem (What?)
The way people consume audiovisual content has changed significantly in recent years: the emergence and rise of the Internet has brought a profound change in the behavior of the audience. In this new era, TV viewers demand a personalized and richer experience watching TV and the possibility of use simultaneously different devices.TV broadcasters and producers need to develop interactive products to build a stronger engagement with their audience. Advertisers are tired of strategies that are not measurable nor results‐oriented and most of the broadcasting sector agents (TV/radio broadcasters, content producers, advertisers…) have poor information about the current behavior of their audience and, in order to improve the quality of such information, they need to include, in a personalized way, Big Data tools that help them developing business activities.
In this framework the integration of mobile devices in contents industry is imperative, and the use of Second Screen applications has emerged from the beginning as the best solution, but the results achieved so far have been rather modest because: i) the existing solutions on the market to synchronize Second Screen applications with the main content are build on craft systems that require an expensive and difficult implementation (only large TV networks can access them); ii) the difficulty that companies in the sector are finding to provide significant value through the Second Screen to the viewer; ii) the lack of talent in the traditional sector companies to incorporate new transmedia storytelling; iv) the absence of a holistic solution that allow the developers build complete applications of second Screen downloading all the systems they need from a single platform.

The solution (How?)
mashPlatfom was born as an Automated Deployment (Autoconfig/install) system, based on Cloud technologies, and conceived and designed “as a service”, with a “download and run” package to facilitate its implementation (making possible a large-scale deployment).
mashPlatfom lets to download and to integrate all the functions needed for building successful Second Screen applications, providing a complete solution with all the instructions needed to deploy cloud infrastructure and a Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes:i) an extremely reliable automatic recognition audio content system; ii) a collecting and managing data platform from which to build models of personalized relationships with the users; iii) an inbound system that allows customized multimedia (and non-invasive) contacts with the users of its applications.

The initial objectives we set in our Phase I proposal were:
- To make a Market study: Undertake a global market study based on current and potential customers, published data and end users to identify key market opportunities, technological trends, size and growth forecasts, competitive landscape…
- To make an Innovation and IP assessment: to ensure that our innovation business and IP strategies are fully aligned to make strategic decisions with confidence maximizing our knowledge in the market.
- To make a Risk assessment: with their mitigation strategies.
- To make a Business Planning integrating International strategy development.

But we have gone further than the initial objectives performing tasks not included initially as:
- To evolve our former deployments (which required an artesanal implementation) into a Plug & Play SDKs.
- To develop an adapted Minimum Viable Product.
- To contrast not only customer´s general opinions but also real cu\"

Work performed

Work done during the reporting period was structured in 4 main areas:

Area 1: To develop a mashPlatform Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and undertake a market study based on real potential customers, to contrast the technical and commercial viability of our proposal and get reliable information about key market opportunities and how to overcome market entry barriers.
Area 2: To make an Innovation and IP assessment to ensure that our innovation business and IP strategies are aligned to make strategic decisions with confidence maximizing our knowledge in the market.
Area 3: To make a technical, financial and commercial risk assessment.
Area 4: To process the information collected, integrating it in our Business Plan (including the market analysis and possible ways of international business strategy development).

Main Results:
1.- mashPlatform solution is viable from both technical and market perspectives.
2.- With our MVP we confirm the real interest of real potential customers on mashPlatform concept and systems (both by feedback received as by the SDK download and use evidences).
3.- We have checked that there is not any other platform in the market similar to mashPlatform (no one can offer today all the functionalities offered by us).
4.- We have confirmed the possibility of building new business models for some specific targets.
5.- We have detected the existence of new potential targets that were not considered before the study.
6.- We have tested different scenarios about key points ( positioning, customer needs and behaviors, product attributes, pricing strategies & plans, brand, user\'s experience, ..) obtaining essential information to define “go to market” strategies and operational plans.

Final results

- The final results of our innovation project will be:
● To develop a low cost Big Data Platform, using Second Screen technologies (“big data from screens”): mashPlatform, designed as a software as a service (SaaS)
● To spread and universalize the use of Big Data, Second Screen and Automatic Content Recognition tools providing a simple way to include them into the business models of any mobile app, which builds customized contents adapted individually to match viewer preferences and behavior.
● To become the global company leading the technology developments in the Big Data solutions market, for audio mobile apps,

- Potential Impact: We can distinguish different types of impacts of our project:
● Our developments allow users to have a more enriched and personalized experience when consuming / watching audiovisual content experience.
● The industry will have a hub to build collaborative projects in which converge various types of talent able to provide real value to new viewers.
● Society will benefit from the direct jobs that will be created with the project, and also will have new tools for creating new transmedia narrative content and collaborative tools that allow one toone and non-invasive interaction.
