Summary

SYNCHRO-NET (SN) aimed at demonstrate how a powerful & innovative SYNCHRO-modal(SM) supply chain (SC) eco-NET can identify and maximize the opportunities for Smart Steaming (ST), and SM Logistics: reduce costs, risk & CO2 while ensuring service levels/economic factors are not compromised. The most important results are:
•15-28 % reduction in fuel usage for the main long-haul shipping
•64 % increase in rail movements analyzed
•30 % reduction in turnaround time for ships & trucks
•14 % reduction in last-mile truck costs
•10% reduction in driver shifts length
Major objective have been incorporating: Real-time SM Logistics Optimisation module,Smart Steaming Ship simulation & control systems,SM risk/benefit analysis statistical modelling,Dynamic Stakeholder(SH)

Work performed

WP1:Review of regulations and policies. 1st business model (BM) done and had provided analysis of BM canvas. To enhanced/refined the initial one a 2nd questionnaire has been conducted and addressed to the consortium and WP Leaders.Canvas model has been modify and adapted to SN overview, adjusting general business sections to the initiative framework.Investigations/case studies have helped to improve it.Description of the expected benefits of SN’s planned innovations.SN vision has been set out.
WP2:made key delivery in terms of the SN Architecture (design blueprint).Innovative governance controls have been studied for commercialization of the SN Ecosystem.Key aspects for a Synchro-cooperative Governance System:1.Limits of current cloud infrastructures in facing lack of connectivity, privacy data, and need of stored data locally.2.Illustrate the policies needed to manage a website intermodal planner tool.Description of the SN Ecosystem & Market Place and potential governance/BM.SH’s Requirements enriched with industrial standards that ensure safety, performance, security, and interoperability.Service oriented architecture design & workflows designed.Investigation of messaging standards from different perspectives. Results in the area of route optimization and ship simulation influencing the architecture.
WP3:2 tools enhanced to create energy models:1.generic spread sheet enhanced with analytical formulae for waves and wind loads.2.BV’s tool SEECAT enhanced to integrate CFD results.CFD simulations have been carried out. Performance curves have been implemented in SEECAT.A ship model has been enhanced to include the positive contribution of wind propulsion.New models have been developed in SEECAT and a benchmark of CFD tools has been performed.Crain developed the Weather Routing Module (WRM).This workflow has been implemented in the called Maritime Module Integrator(MMI).WSAM enhanced its ECDIS station, with connection to the Maritime Collaborative Platform(MCP).KM developed the CSP,accessible as a web-service.
WP4:Prototypes of components developed.Interoperable SM logistics planning software modules have been developed, building on the Extended Multi-modal Model developed earlier in the project:SM Decision Support System,Real-time SM Logistics Planner,SM Hinterland Logistics Optimizer,Port,Terminal and Berth Scheduling,Real-time Terminal & Depot Container Stock Model,Empty Container Repositioning Optimisation and Real-time SM Interfaces,Driver Interaction Model,Train Operator Interaction Layer and Smartphone Real-time Driver Communicator. The Risk Profiler service has been developed to run simulations, providing risk.
WP5:Construction of ship software models, simulation, demonstrator definition, design of the SH assessment methodology and prototype, collection of the requirements & data structures of the modules, definition of the structure of SN. 3 ship models have been implemented/tested in the demonstrators.SH Assessment Methodology questionnaire has been developed/linked with simulation modules to calculate KPIs&KRIs.A multi-agent front-end to the SN eco-NET has been built. The SM logistics optimization toolset linked with the simulation modules. The SC De-stressing module has been developed/tested.
WP6:Planning, implementation & evaluation of 3 full scale business case demonstrators (East-West/Regional/Pan European) to assess benefits of the SN eco-NET platform in terms of feasibility, sustainability & practicability. All the KPIs identified in Phase 1&2 calculated and target reached as per the DoW. No deviations
WP7: Arrange an extensive but highly focused communication & Dissemination programme. Provide standardization and policy recommendations and plans for long-term exploitation of the project outputs.Regular updates of the comm. channels, creation of SN social media (FB, Twitter),development, testing, management and update of the ITO carried out.Comm. activities in Medias have been published. The Key Exploitable Results have bee

Final results

A large number of interoperable SM logistics planning software modules have been developed: SM Decision Support System, Real-time SM Logistics Planner, SM Hinterland Logistics Optimizer, Port, Terminal and Berth Scheduling, Real-time Terminal & Depot Container Stock Model, Empty Container Repositioning Optimisation and Real-time SM Interfaces. The Risk Optimisation module has been split into 2 submodules for more flexible integration with the SN architecture: Risk Profiler & Risk Analysis module. The Real-time Driver & Operator Interaction Layer has been developed, integrated and tested, It is ready for assessment in WP6. Weather routing module has been developed and Cooperative Speed Pilot has been designed to integrate the operational costs into the optimization process. Constructions of 3 detailed ship software models: implemented and tested in the different demonstrators. A set of waypoints have been set according to this maritime routes. SH Impact Assessment Model has been developed with to calculate the KPIs & KRIs, for each stakeholder/user. Context-aware Multi-agent Presentation Layer: user-friendly multi-agent front-end to the SN eco-NET has been built, enabling its integration with other modules. SC De-stressing module has been developed, tested and linked to other modules. Cooperative Speed Pilot has been implemented as a web-service module designed to support other Maritime module. The East/West, Regional and Pan European demonstrators have been analyzed. Expected impacts:
Reduce:cost,CO2 emissions,congestion and waiting/turnaround times.
Increase: greener transport, optimizing empty repositioning and movements, reliability, collaboration in SC,quality of life, job satisfaction & economic benefits
