Summary

CV4RE is a project from Restb.ai, a company that started its activity in 2015 with a proprietary technology based on Deep Learning Convolutional Neural Networks that allows machines to understand, categorize, classify and tag images, with accuracy rates reaching 99%.

While tech giants like Facebook and Google are using their own data to train their Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms for their own needs, Restb.ai’s business model is to sell Computer Vision as a service (PaaS: Platform as a Service) where our general pricing strategy is a tiered model with a flat fee for a maximum of processed images per month. To achieve the desired sales, Restb.ai will focus on a B2B sales channel. It is our principal sales channel and 80% of total sales are expected to come from this channel.

Main objective

Thanks to the CV4RE project, Restb.ai aims to achieve €16 M turnover by 2024, with NPV€10 Million and payback of 2.23 years (considering the 2 year of project/development where there are no profits). The willingness-to-pay for CV4RE is assured by the interest we have received from our potential customers and all the actors of the value chain that will benefit from our solutions. We have already signed a contract with Idealista (online RE portal leader in Spain), Apimo (Major CRM Company in France) and we are in contact withIKEA that could give us the maximum visibility in the Home Furnishing sector.

Work performed

The work performed around this project has been developed around 3 main blocks:

1) Technical development (64% of the budget)
2) Sales and Marketing (26% of the budget)
3) Management of the project (10% of the budget)

The technical development consists in the development of the tasks of the different work packages until the first reporting period.

WP1: API Platform new capabilities
We have achieved all the goals and objectives of this work package. The Multi region Platform Development, the Automation feedback system and the client Dashboard have been developed, and now our clients and teams can benefit from them.

Our Platform has been strongly enhanced thanks to the new capabilities developed. In particular, the Multi Region Platform Deployment development has helped us to have a much more robust and solid platform, with a greater degree of redundancy and availability.

WP2: Enhanced AI
We have started tackling the tasks i) Indoor/Outdoor home styles recognition and ii) Object detection for inventorying. Initial work has been done in defining specifications and milestones of both tasks, and we are on schedule to having them finished.

WP3: Internal Tools
This work package is the one that has had more tasks/tools to be developed (4) in the time between the start of the project and the start of the first reporting period. Even so, we have managed to develop all the requirements to boost our internal Tools, as: i) Cloud labelling environment ii) Billing Automation iii) AI trainings automation and iv) Dev/OPS automation

Thanks to these developments out internal tools have been greatly improved in terms of usability and efficiency, not only for our teams, but for our clients too.

WP4: Sales Performance Tools
In this work package we focused on the development of the tools that would help us shrink the sales cycles with our clients.
As of i) Development of SDK’s, ii) Improvements in the Demo and iii) Version 2.0 of the website.

As a result of this, clients understand better what we do when looking at out website, interact and test oud Demo in a much simple way and integrate our solutions using less resources and in less time that before.

WP6: Commercialization and communication activities
This work package has been focused around the business part of the company, defining and performing the i) Customer development activities, ii) Business Innovation Plan and the iii) Communication activities.

The Business side of the company has been greatly improved thanks to all the actions that we have taken, like improving our presence and branding in the Real Estate sector, finding new sub-markets or niches inside Real Estate interested in our solutions, having presence in more and bigger conferences and events and promoting our products there by doing presentations or having stands where clients could approach us, and last but not least by having a stronger presence in the media (websites, 3rd party blogs, campaigns, social media, audio visuals, press and more…).

WP7: Management
The management of the project has been defined around 3 main blocks: i) The management of resources, ii) Project and knowledge management and iii) The coordination of the Project with the European Commission.

As a result of the management activities done, we have ensured the exit on the achievement of the technical and business goals, by managing the resources and teams of the company to achieve Milestones and to complete tasks before the deliverable dates of those. Even that in some cases some human resources have had to be reallocated, the management of the project has happened as planned, as can be proven with all the deliverables submitted to the EC and the achieved objectives.

Final results

Computer vision identifies, categorizes, and correlates features in and across photographs allowing businesses to embrace the image-heavy digital era and unlock a treasure trove of business-critical information.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then computer Vision unlocks access to a wealth of impressions, moods and emotions that make potential buyers and renters act on a property, including, and especially, the blind.

We are the only company that has built its proprietary computer vision technology from the ground up to specialise in real estate, in order to understand and describe property photos with metadata that are specific to real estate. The cloud-based technology is highly scalable and can easily grow to process billions of images.

Thanks to the CV4RE project, we have been able to improve our solutions, improving our algorithms, the architecture of our models and increasing the amount of training data.

Providing our customers with such precise and relevant metadata returned from our solutions, gives them the following benefits, all in order to drive more traffic to their sites and increase their conversion rates:

- Increase traffic to website: Improving their SEO, adding automatically generated descriptions to their images
- Revolutionize site search: Improving the data of each listings, so clients can easily find what they are looking for
- Easily recommend similar homes: Recommend homes with similar features
- Organize the images: Show listing images grouped by room type
- Enable visual comparison of listings: Let buyers compare room by room different homes
- Optimize thumbnails: Automatically control what thumbnails are used for each listing to avoid having irrelevant images showcased in a listing.
- Give visibility to the blind: Thanks to the metadata extracted from our solutions, portals can use a text-to-speech tool to let the visually impaired envision what a house might look like
- Enable Big Data analysis: unlock a treasure trove of information about real estate trends using the clean and precise metadata our technology provides
- Monetize 3rd party logos: detect all the 3rd party logos and watermarks so companies can either block those images or charge the provider for “hijacking” their digital real estate.
