Summary
People are buying more and more online. Nevertheless, delivery is the biggest challenge to e-commerce. Among all couriers globally, it is estimated that up to 20% of deliveries are not made during the first attempt, which means a big revenue loss, bad customer experience and negative impact on the environment due to additional trips. To avoid the need to stay at home, access control is seen to be more convenient for delivery options. To respond to these challenges, Locumi Labs has developed nello one. nello one is a plug and play device that converts an intercom into a smart lock, allowing users to give hallway access from wherever they are through an app installed in their smartphone. The goal of Locumi Labs is to develop a convenient and smart solution to enable keyless hallway access for users.
Work performed
During the feasibility assessment, Locumi Labs completed a full analysis of the technical and business potential of nello one. Locumi Labs expanded its knowledge on nello one’s interoperability, market and different customer segments. A sound business model and commercialisation strategy was established for the anticipated market launch. During the project, Locumi Labs gained crucial information based on interviews with its customer network and stakeholders that will contribute to the commercial success of nello one. This has been highly valuable in defining the remaining technical activities to perform to ensure all MVP requirements are fulfilled.
Final results
nello one is uniquely placed within the housing access market. It is the only affordable smart solution that allows hallway access and permits directs sales to consumers due to its ease of installation. Smart locks available in the market do not provide consumers that live in apartments or blocks of flats a solution, as couriers still need, to enter the building entrance door before having access to the smart lock. There are 80M households in Europe living in apartments with intercoms, that need a solution that allows users to be out of the house yet give hallway access through their smart phone. nello one’s adoption will make urbane life easier. Our solution will also bring significant cost savings for last mile logistic companies and other service providers by allowing a more efficient and convenient delivery, even when customer is not at home.
