The main objective of BasePort, is to optimise and validate as well as engage relevant stakeholders to to initiate the finalisation of the T2400, a game-changing, best in class, HW-SW solution for genome sequencing and long-term storage of genome sequence data based on an existing prototype. The main activities entail adaptation of the current printed circuit board, construction of backplane supporting architecture, software modifications and validation of the prototype system by benchmarking with field testing. We will also aim to obtain the critical safety certifications (e.g. CE mark) and explore additional certifications that are be necessary for acceptance of the product and add value in our target market.
Based on the results of the comprehensive market research that we conducted, we determined the customer needs and thus the technical requirements of BasePort. We also identified the most promising markets that we should target for initial entry. This also revealed the existence of a lucrative serviceable available niche genomics market of €16.7 billion with a CAGR of 10% between 2018 and 2023.
The market study results were then used together with our marketing capacity and taking into consideration the activities of competitors to make 5 year financial projections of the BasePort project post commercialisation. BasePort is expected to contribute €92m to Swiss Vault’s annual revenue by the 5th year after commercialisation. Profits are also forecasted to grow to €26m in the 5th year.
Health care institutions around the globe are building their capabilities to deliver on the promise of personalised precision medicine as it saves, improves and extends people’s lives, while decreasing national health care costs, and increasing national productivity. To manage genomics data, the industry requires a low-cost, secure, scalable, and sustainable technical infrastructure to support the unprecedented demand for data storage and computation that is needed to advance precision healthcare. However, current solutions fall short of the need for cost-efficient data management. BASEPORT addresses an important gap in the delivery of Precision Medicine through an innovative approach to data technology and philosophy that enables building high performance systems with a lot of data storage capacity, security, with low-cost for performance.
