Summary

Robots and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are important tools used in industry to improve quality and efficiency. However, they are unable to evaluate their surroundings and adapt to changing environments. Their capabilities remain limited to repetitive tasks, creating a growing demand for more adaptable, flexible and autonomous systems. That´s why we are developing Ladimo’s SmartEye 3D scanner which will allow them to accurately scan their environments in real-time, identifying the proximity of workers or operating moving autonomous vehicles. The objectives of the Phase 1 project are the analysis of the technical, commercial and financial feasibility of our scanner in order to ensure its future market success.

Work performed

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY: We determined needed improvements and technical requirements for serial production, pilot tests and identified the most promising partners for these pilots as well as for technical development. Finally, we developed a risk management plan with coupled mitigation and contingency actions, addressing all parts of the project (technical, commercial & financial)
COMMERCIAL FEASIBILITY: We evaluated the robotics market and identified partners and potential customers with whom we would collaborate to extend the reach of our system. We have conducted inquiries with them, to determine their requirements and needs. In addition, we performed an FTO analysis to confirm that there are no IP conflicts.
FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY: We determined the investment needed to finalize the development of our 3D scanner and prepare its market launch, as well as estimate future sales for a 5-year period and define our future funding strategy.

Final results

Ladimo’s ambition is to disrupt the 3D scanning industry market though our extremely accurate 3D scanner, that can be integrated into robots and AGVs to allow them to evaluate and react to their environment. This is an important upgrade to current systems and also our technology will not be expensive, further allowing SMEs to implement it and remain competitive against large and established companies. We expect to launch our SmartEye 3D scanner by 2021 and obtain cumulative revenue of €148M after 5 years of commercialization, as we expand from Europe to North America and Asia.
