Summary

Mass-market utilization of application and services leveraging position information is facing continuous growth; revenues in the field are foreseen in continuous growth as well.
Location-based applications are considered important from the social point of view, as a pioneering way to create awareness on sustainability problems and putting in place collective solutions for Sustainability and Social Innovation.
The domain of location based applications is clearly a “golden target” for malicious users and hackers profiting of lack of privacy features or the location-based mechanics of these applications. Damages resulting by e-Security threats are physically less dangerous compared to damages caused attacks to navigation systems, nonetheless the potential financial and business potential losses because of lack of trust in such technologies is potentially gigantic.

GOEASY provides a platform for e-Security features and Galileo authentication in mass market applications, by achieving the following Technical Objectives
1) to implement and evaluate an innovative eco-system for trusted and dependable mass-market LBS and Apps
2) to deliver an end-to-end, adaptive framework for dependable and trusted measurement and exchange of position information built upon Galileo features and existing e-Security open architectures
3) to deliver scalable cloud-oriented services suitable for mass-market scenarios with growing number of mobile users engaged in position-dependant applications
4) to enable rapid development of interoperable and trusted generic applications through open APIs and SDK sfor mobile LBS
5) to foster interoperability of Galileo-based applications with open Internet-of-Things eco-systems through well-established open standards and enablers
Strategic Objectives are:
1) to promote sustainable behaviour of citizens through reward-based gamification leveraging dependable position information
2) to innovate Location-Based Applications in compliance with EU’s legal and ethical requirements, with a strong attention on privacy aspects
3) to demonstrate the viability of Galileo services in supporting sustainable businesses case of Location-based services
4) to gather lessons learned about the developed solutions through two real medium-scale pilots

Work performed

GOEASY is organized in 7 WPs whose operational relationship is summarized in Fig 3. The WPs are organized so that WP2 deals with requirement specification and analysis to produce technical requirements, and develop the overall GOEASY architecture. The architecture will be used to instantiate the GOEASY enabled apps that will be used as pilot. WP3 aimed at analysis and design of receiver and device related requirements that support the execution of GOEASY enabled apps. WP4 deals with development of scalable and trusted LBS system through utilizing the output of WP3 and producing trust and security services to the GOEASY enabled app. WP5 is tasked with development of robust mass-market applications (AsthmaWatch and ApesMobility) through integration of the services developed in WP2, WP3 and WP4. These mass-market applicationsWP5 are then deployed into pilots and evaluated by WP6.
All WPs are running at a pace that can be considered quite in line with the work plan. However, WP3 had to start a contingency plan due to Qualcomm informing us not having in its short-term roadmap Galileo receivers with open raw-data. WP4 has started its activities, in close cooperation with WP2, defining the relevant Privacy-Aware Information Bases and enablers for LBS, as well as the e-Security Infrastructure. WP5 and WP6 are working in close cooperation, and the integration framework specification is well underway and will be released according to plan.
Integration of components (by CNET, LINKS and GAPES) is in progress on a principal integration platform prepared by CNET: cloud component is ready, authentication component meaningfulness is affected by the lack of authentication data. Update of requirements in the agile process is in full progress, with sprint planning every 4 weeks. In summary
- the GOEASY Platform has been fully defined (Fig 4) and the most important components are in their Alpha version
- the two field trials are well in line with the expectations, as the AsthmaWatch Mobile Sensing Gateway has found additional scenarios for trial and the Journey Tracker is ready and operational.

Final results

GOEASY will improve state of the art in several aspects of technology, in particular:
1. has realized a mobile gateway able to deliver authenticated position information, once the Galileo ICD containing the authentication schemes will be delivered
2. analyses the best practices and recommendations defined both for the hardware design of mobile devices and for the design and development of mobile applications. Then, it will contribute to define new best practices based on the lessons learned developing the GOEASY applications.
3. studies and implements solutions to build a secure communication channel between the mobile devices and the cloud platform.
4. we are extening the ALMANAC scalability infrastructure to handle air pollution data together with spirometers’ data and combine it with fog computing principles where relevant parts of the calculations are pre-processed in the mobile sensing nodes as well edge analytics in the users smart phones for the advice calculations.
5. GNSS security features can be used to provide current LBS frameworks a robust, standardized, out-of-the-box anti-location-spoofing capability.
6. will adopt existing platform federation techniques developed by ALMANAC in the area of Smart City / IoT platforms federation, extending the scope of such platform to provide interoperability with CAPs and platforms providing Location-based services.
7. certifies validity and trustworthiness of data provided via gamification applications solving issues such as trust, privacy and general data uncertainty
8. will innovate existing LBS approaches by introducing privacy aware features, thus increasing the protection and acceptance for the end user.

GOEASY directly addresses, and then impacts, mass-market Galileo applications.
1. GOEASY will demonstrate Galileo added value developing and testing two mass-market applications.
2. The GOEASY project will ultimately give to the consortium partners the final elements to decide on the best way to market GOEASY solutions jointly and/or individually.
3. GOEASY will in general benefit the whole GNSS eco-systems – also promoting a more widespread adoption of Galileo-enabled devices.
4. GOEASY tackles interoperability between location-based systems and IoT platforms, directly generating new opportunities for providers of connected devices based on Machine to Machine communication capabilities and transceivers for IoT applications.
5. GOEASY is an enabling infrastructure for the development of downstream applications, helping to maximize adoption of Galileo and EGNOS, but and also to stimulate the EU GNSS downstream industry competitiveness, while capturing public benefits.
6. GOEASY features two innovative SMEs as new players entering for the first time in contact with the sector of GNSS applications.
7. More in general, the increased trust on positioning and data protection, together with privacy protection, will ease croud-sourcing of mobility data by public authorities, that might be used for promoting specific mobility behaviours or to define mobility strategies.
