 Project objective

Current hard wire rod applications are rising, demanding a higher mechanical strength, perfect straightening and improved surface finishing quality. Current machinery for improving rod surface finishing is a combination on several machines in series (straightening grinding cutting tumbling) that work on soft wire (9-110 daN/mm2) thus do not reach demanding product requirements (160-220 daN/mm², surface finishing -Ra 0.2). Additionally, mentioned machines in series have a high energy consumption (186kW), high pollution & waste (oil, gas and water), limited safety, and high operation & maintenance (O&M) cost as they need a high number of operators. To overcome those limitations, Delta Composants, a French company with more than 35-years-experience team in tailor-made metallurgic solutions transforming wire & metal strips (e.g. mechanical/ electrical cutting, stamping, tumbling), has developed SurfWire, the first machine for surface finishing of hard wire rod to provide new hard rod products for demanding applications in a wide variety of industrial sectors, from medical to aerospace. SurfWire is a sustainable & efficient machine solution: compared to standard finishing processes in series, SurfWire saves 45% energy consumption, has lower O&M cost, reduced waste & emissions (80% less waste water); it is fully automatic and therefore safer. Surfwire machine adaptability & flexibility manufactures rod products for several applications (e.g. automobile injectors or furniture hinges) with unmatchable surface finishing quality (Ra 0.2), high mechanical strength (160-220 daN/mm²), perfectly straight pieces, and a competitive price of 45€/1000 pieces. SurfWire successful launch will be by 2020, boosting our revenues and gross profits to respectively €9.2 M and €4.8 M by the 5th year. Even considering a conservative sales scenario, selling 205M pieces, we would obtain a profitable ROI of 200% after 5 years and will create 7 new job opportunities.
