 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'In Portugal there is high quality research in the areas of Water and Biodiversity, as well as a vast range of researchers responsible for projects of international relevance in these subjects. However, these results are still largely unknown by the general public. Knowledge and recognition exist only in academia and not in public opinion, which is still distant from active participation in science. It is therefore important to bring science and researchers closer to the public and make the community understand and recognise their societal role. For this purpose, the SCIENCE WATERPARK project intends to organize activities that focus on the public at large and in bringing scientists in direct contact with citizens. Seeking to demystify the idea that science and research are only for some enlightened as well as to demonstrate that it is fun and fascinating, the project SCIENCE WATERPARK was designed to tackle the existing stereotypes about researchers and their profession, and to the public at large better understand the central role of researchers and the key benefits they bring to society. The project was developed around the theme science for water and biodiversity and the vast array of interconnections, interdependencies and mutual influences that cover these important knowledge areas, which makes them increasingly relevant subjects for both scientists and general public. It is straightforward to see nowadays the undeniable importance of these themes, their almost permanent presence in everyday life of human societies that depend on them in multiple strands as well as to understand the danger of exhausting such resources. Because we intend to enhance public recognition of researchers and their work we believe that water and biodiversity are perfect subjects to attract public attention, contributing to make the public at large more aware of the relevance of researchers´ work as well as their contribution to preserve our world.'
