 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'The current proposal aims at creating, at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), an International Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Programme (InterPod) to train young scientists, in accordance with the objectives of the Marie Curie COFUND action. The goal of this new incoming mobility Programme is to provide highly talented postdocs with the opportunity to increase their trans-national mobility and advance their career development. CRG, located in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), is emerging as a first-class multidisciplinary research centre. CRG strengths are in systems and computational biology, cell and molecular biology, genetics and epigenetics, and genomics and proteomics. CRG leads an International PhD Programme, hosts cutting-edge core facilities and gives access to one of the largest animal facilities in Europe. Therefore, the CRG will provide an excellent and dynamic scientific environment for the proposed Programme. The 4-year Programme will offer a total of 10 fellowships that will be announced in 2 international calls. The selection of the fellows will be merit-based, founded on international peer review in an open and transparent selection procedure. The fellows will choose interdisciplinary research projects that bring together research lines of two or more CRG laboratories. In addition to advanced research training, the Programme will offer a series of activities and workshops aimed at providing experienced researchers with the required skills for a successful career in science, and increase their competitiveness in the current job market.'

Introduzione (Teaser)

Brain drain is a major concern and European countries are developing programmes through EU funding to attract and retain skilled scientists. These programmes offer opportunities for professional development and increased mobility.

Descrizione progetto (Article)

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is a Spanish biomedical institute located at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) among several other biomedical research institutions. The CRG has state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced training facilities providing access to one of the largest animal facilities in Europe.

In partnership with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the CRG is working on elucidating the human genome for applications in disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment. A whopping 29 research groups are working on understanding gene regulation, stem cells and cancer using a systems biology approach and bioinformatics.

The EU-funded 'CRG international interdisciplinary postdoctoral programme' (http://www.crg.eu/en/content/training-postdoctoral-researchers/interpod (INTERPOD)) project is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship programme at the CRG. This programme offers 10 fellowships with a duration of 2 years.

Talented postdoctoral candidates are recruited on the basis of merit after international peer review. The programme hosts about 100 postdoctoral scientists. The INTERPOD candidates participate in interdisciplinary research projects at two or more CRG laboratories as part of the CRG postdoctoral programme.

INTERPOD fellows also receive top-notch training through high-profile CRG/PRBB seminars and conferences, practical training courses, and complementary skills and career development courses. Important skills such as grant and scientific writing, leadership, intellectual property, methodology of biomedical publications and biosafety training are developed through these courses.

By project-end, INTERPOD fellows should have improved their technical know-how and communication skills, rendering them capable of independent research. This should boost their chances for success in their field of expertise and raise the standards of European research.
