The EU’s next innovation and research funding programme, Horizon Europe, will invest €100 billion of public money into research and innovation projects, and the commercialization process will be vital in enabling EU citizens to enjoy the social and economic benefits of this enormous investment. More than 3 million patent applications are filed annually worldwide, a figure that is increasing by approximately 8% each year. Despite this vast number of applications, the cost of filing a patent remains a substantial barrier to individual inventors, universities and research centres, and early stage SMEs who are pre-investment or have raised only a small seed round to fund initial product development. Patwiser is a revolutionary patent drafting tool powered by cutting-edge AI algorithms that enables inventors and innovators to draft their own high-quality patent applications and patent attorneys to produce first-draft applications in 30% of the time for a manual drafting process. Patwiser’s simple workflow enables frictionless input of the key inventive concepts and experimental data, from which the user can generate a broad and relevant claim set in a semi-automated fashion. The software then uses advanced AI to automatically generate the other sections of the application in a format approved by the European Patent Office (EPO) based on analysis of a large database of applications in the same technical field. Patwiser will provide cost-effective access to the patent system to all and foster innovation across the EU. The Phase 1 project aims to provide a full technical and commercial feasibility assessment including planning pilot demonstrations of the software and defining the go-to-market strategy. The subsequent Phase 2 project will aim to optimise the algorithms and localise the software, finalise the UX design, perform pilot demonstration and validation activities with potential clients and execute the communication and digital marketing strategy.
