 Project objective

The EU livestock sector is the largest in the world, and meat, milk, and eggs make up 40% of the EU’s agricultural production value. It accounts for 48% of total EU agricultural activity, with an estimated €130bn output value annually. The sector has been dealing with numerous challenges such as animal welfare, foreign competition, environmental impact, and antibiotic resistance, but technologies such as Precision Livestock Farming can help face these challenges, as has already been demonstrated by the EU-PLF project. However, existing Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) solutions on the market are not being adopted by farmers due to the complexity of the technology (e.g. different software for different hardware, sensor data in different formats), the lack of support, data storage limited capacities, and the difficulty interpreting and visualizing gathered data. Thus, due to their poor design, not having in mind end-users' technological limitations, these systems can't really translate into productivity gains, nor provide a return on investment in the short-term, which is the overriding reason to adopt PLF. Paintec SL, company specialized in providing services for the agricultural sector based on technologies and Big Data analysis, has developed SmartFarm 4.0, aware of the value data can have for farmers and other stakeholders in the supply chain. SmartFarm 4.0 is a PLF cloud-based platform integrating the hardware needed for a complete 3600 monitoring of the farm with a single software. Relevant data from the farm is presented to the user through an intuitive dashboard with alerts in those areas that need attention, so that the user can take immediate action. By understanding the data, farmers can take action, thus our system really translates into a ROI of more than €2 per euro invested. Additional advantages from our solution are unlimited data storage, improved data security, easy access to data by other stakeholders, periodic updates and full customer support.
